The Christmas tree fights back.....(Michael, this is just for you...)

A Child's Wisdom

During this Christmas season it is good to stop, take a deep breath, and focus on the Reason that we Christians celebrate this day. This audio will simply yet profoundly take you to the heart of the season, in the words of a child. Click, listen, and quiet your heart:

Wish List

Okay, this is the situation....the Miles/Blass clan here in Maplecrest, Korea and Iraq agreed to do a secret gift exchange for Christmas this year. Great idea, don't you think??? So we exchanged names and, with Christmas a mere 3 weeks away, I (as manager of the gifts) felt it was time to get together a wish list that each participating individual could submit to me (manager of the gifts) so that I (manager of the gifts) in turn could pass suggestions on to those gifters who needed help in choosing a gift for their giftee. Well, we now have a dilemma. One of our members, we won't say who, wants a plane ticket home. That is the ONLY ITEM ON HIS (or her) LIST!!!

The gifter for this particular giftee is puzzled, astonished, and amazed....What do we do now????? Any suggestions from our friends, family, contacts??? (Gifters and giftees may also comment.)

We are inexperienced in this ritual of the secret gift exchange. Is there a procedure to follow?

Thank you for your HELP!

love, mom (I feel better now)

Lighthouse Bible Church's 4th Anniversary Celebration

Some of the people that joined us for the open house.

On Saturday, Dec 1, we held an Open House at our new church home on Main St, Hunter, NY. Our church was started in October, 2003, and since that first service we have met in 7 or 8 different locations. We are so happy to be here, in the "heart" of Hunter, right across from the Post Office and next door to a large apartment building filled with people and children of all ages. We are the only Christian church in town. We also took some time to celebrate John Osborne's 30th anniversary in his Country Gospel Music ministry. John and his wife Diane are our friends and partners in this Lighthouse Ministry, serving as deacon and treasurer since the beginning.
We had a wonderful time of praise and fellowship and are looking forward to our fifth year of shining the Light in the darkness of these beautiful mountains. The following pictures capture a few of the many friends, old and new, that visited the church during this open house.

I think you will enjoy this video of a youth orchestra in Venezuela

If you haven't seen it, you MUST see this video.  "That smiling conductor is the new conductor of the LA Philharmonic who will take over next year or the year after that.  He is the most sought after young conductor in the world!    His name is Gustavo Dudamel."  If you type his name in Google, there are many websites that talk about him.  And...he's 26 years old!"

This reminds me of my days in BHS band. (not really...) It's alot of fun...enjoy!

Some Old Photos

The back of the photo says, "Maplecrest, Catskill Mts, Sept 1926. Ready for a days work.
Grand Ma, Mother, Vogland, and Shep the dog."

I had some fun scanning these old photos -- if anyone can add any details to any of them, please do!
Enjoy!

Maplecrest Thanksgiving 2007

We have so much to be thankful for!

It was a warm day with some rain showers here in the Catskills - a little unusual for this time of year. But by 8 pm the temps had dipped into the 20's and we had a dusting of snow. We had a quiet holiday, with Michael in Iraq, but enjoyed the day with the children, and a wonderful feast prepared by Laura. It was nice to have Michael's dad here too. We pray for peace protection, and a joyful reunion in the days to come. Lord willing, next year will be a THANKSGIVING BLAST!

Run, run, run!

This is one of Anna and Samuel's favorite games. They have the most fun when Aunt Carrie runs with them, but we all take our turns: "You'd better run, here I come---I'm gonna get you!!"

Adirondack Weekend 11-7-07

Dan and I spent the weekend at a SHOR retreat (Shepherds Haven of Rest) for pastors and wives at the Cornerstone Victorian B&B in Warrensburg, NY, near Lake George. The Cornerstone is owned by Doug and Louise Goettsche formerly of the Thompson House in Windham. It was a great time of rest and relaxation, catching up with old friends and enjoying the beauty of the lake and mountains. We spent some time visiting with Nancy DeLivron who went to Kings College and Columbia-Pres School of Nursing with me eons ago....

Country Scenes

"Up the valley", near Milton MacGlashan's bridge and farm.

Some of my favorite shots from the mountaintop, in all seasons. See why we call it God's Country?

Mom's 80th Birthday Party

Doesn't she look great?

We celebrated at Cappola's Italian-American Bistro in Hyde Park, NY on July 21, 2007.

The Wedding 7/7/07

Our son Matt and Rebecca Older were married at her home church in Brimstone, Ohio. They met in Korea, where Beka has been teaching English at the International Christian School in Pyeongtaek. Matt has been teaching at a Korean school nearby, but will now join Beka at ICS, teaching English as a Second Language. They both love Korea and are excited about their ministry there together.
